Family event brings Grenfell community together

A joyful family event organised by Rugby Portobello Trust (RPT), with support from many other local organisations, brought a grieving community together last weekend.

Community Together for Grenfell was held at Avondale Park on Saturday 16 June to support families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire, one year on from the tragedy.

Over 50 volunteers helped to make the day a success and more than 1300 people attended, taking part in free activities from t-shirt printing to archery, rocket-making to badge making and nail decorating to name just a few.

Delicious veggie hot dogs were provided by Linda McCartney Foods, with coffee laid on by Starbucks, and refreshments of all kinds came from food charity FareShare.

FareShare London Development Manager, Rachel Ledwith said:

“Grenfell has touched the lives of so many and will continue to do so for years to come. We all hope the event brought people together and showed there will be positive outcomes from the tragedy. Everyone commented on what a positive and joyful experience it was; the warehouse was buzzing with a feel-good factor on Saturday.”

Clare Richards, CEO at the ClementJames Centre, RPT’s partners in organising Community Together for Grenfell, said:

“There was a huge turnout and a lovely atmosphere. We were delighted to support RPT and our wonderful community at what was an uplifting end to an emotional week.”

The event formed part of many one-year Grenfell memorial events last week, aiming to help rebuild and strengthen a community devastated by tragedy. Rugby Portobello Trust's team of staff and volunteers have been instrumental in supporting survivors of the fire, both through distributing grants and providing emotional and practical support, alongside many local organisations who have stood in solidarity with Grenfell survivors.

RPT would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who showed their support on Saturday:
