Barry Eaglestone through the Lens, in support of the Rugby Portobello Trust
We’re delighted to share news of a exhibition from long-time North Kensington resident, friend of RPT and passionate traveller, Barry Eaglestone.
Barry has lived in our community for over 40 years, but his camera has taken him far beyond. His upcoming exhibition, Venice & Burano, is a stunning collection of photographs that captures the quiet magic and rich character of these two Italian gems. The exhibition will be on show at The Khaw Gallery, located inside Daku Coffee (just opposite High Street Kensington station), from April until May.
Barry’s journey into photography began in the 1990s, sparked by a curiosity about cultures beyond his own. After a long break from photography, Barry rediscovered his passion – this time capturing scenes with nothing more than a handheld camera and an artist’s eye. This exhibition presents work created over the past four years, taken without tripods or filters, yet rich in atmosphere and authenticity.
Reflecting on the exhibition, Barry shares:
"Like many, I believe Venice is a truly magical place – a city like no other. While the hotspots can feel overcrowded, there’s still something incredibly special about travelling along the Grand Canal and feeling part of its living tapestry. Venice is best explored on foot, through its maze of narrow alleyways and backstreet canals. There’s a joy in not knowing what’s waiting around the next blind corner – weathered textures, faded colours, tiny footbridges, and small, unexpected details that add to the city's character. It’s these hidden gems, one after the other, that give Venice its soul and make it so unique. These are the moments I’ve focused on capturing in my photographs."
Barry is generously donating 15% of the profits from the exhibition to Rugby Portobello Trust in support of our work with local children, young people and families. His connection to the area and his commitment to giving back make this exhibition all the more meaningful.
