About Us

History

The Rugby Portobello Trust (RPT) is an amalgamation of the Rugby Clubs (founded in 1884) The Portobello Trust (formed in 1986) and Portobello Houseshare (formed in 1992) that merged in 2003 to provide integrated support for young people in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

RPT works with local children, young people and their families to help the youngest members of our community fulfil their potential, keep safe and build and engage with wider society. We do this by providing a range of skills, activities and great facilities alongside guidance and support. Our centre in Walmer Road is busy all day, evenings and at weekends, and in the last year we worked with over 1,300 children, young people and families, both on and off site.

In 2009 the RPT merged with national charity People Potential Possibilities (P3). P3 delivers services for socially excluded and vulnerable people, offering support with housing, social care, health and justice. P3 has been supporting people for over 45 years, and its larger centralised infrastructure has enabled the RPT to focus on the expansion of its play and youth services.

Part of the P3 Group, the RPT remains a local charity for local people, supported by the local community. All funds raised by the RPT support projects in North Kensington.

Accolades

The Rugby Portobello Trust has received extensive acknowledgment of our exceptional support for the community throughout the years, including but not limited to our volunteers receiving the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) in 2020 (the group equivalent of an MBE); our former Volunteer Manager, Catherine Moss, receiving an MBE for her community work that spanned more than two decades; and receiving a royal visit from the Duchess of Cambridge in 2017 to acknowledge our response to and support for the community following the Grenfell Tower fire.

Our funders number in the thousands, including trusts, foundation, local and central government and private donors. We consider this a testament to the quality and impact of our work.
